The Holiday season is officially upon us. As I sit here in my dining room I can smell our turkey cooking, and my children are running around exited to see all their cousins. I can’t help but just sit back and just be thankful for my family and friends.
To all of you out there I would like to say thank you again for coming back week after week to continue our adventures in pressed penny collecting. It means a lot to know that so many of you share this hobby and are just as obsessed as I am.
Have a fantastic Thanksgiving, and please be safe if you are traveling.
Happy 4th of July!!
I always enjoy trying to find new coins that represent some of our holidays and this year I luckily found a wonderful brand new set. Being a member of TEC allows me to also join the TEC Yahoo Group which is an easy way for members to communication with each other. Sometimes tips are sent out, or missing coins get requested, and my favorite new unique pressed coins made available. This year Tyler Tyson put together this fantastic set of 4 designs. I opted to receive all 4 designs in a denominational set which just means you get them on pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters. Considering the hard work Tyler put into these sets the fee was very reasonable and I appreciate everything he did make these available.
The designs include images of a Liberty Head Profile, Eagle Head, a Rocket, and Uncle Sam’s Top Hat. I wanted to make sure you could see all the detail so here are some close-ups. First is the set of Pennies.
Here are the images pressed on Nickels.
Rare to find pressed Dimes so I always get them when I can.
Last but certainly not least is the set of Quarters.
I hope everyone has a great 4th of July and more importantly a safe holiday. Enjoy your time with family and friends with some great food and hopefully fireworks. If anyone needs me I’ll be in the pool enjoying the sun and some BBQ.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day to all my Irish friends. Make sure to raise a pint and chow down on some corned beef and cabbage. My Aunt lives in Ireland and always jokes about how America’s celebrate St. Patrick’s day but what can I say it’s one of my favorite holidays and corned beef is one of my weaknesses.
However you decide to celebrate, enjoy this special holiday whether you are Irish or not. It’s a great day to let loose and have some fun.
The ball has just dropped and I wanted to wish everyone a Happy New Year. As I watched the festivities in Times Square New York it dawned on me that I had the perfect pressed pennies for just such an occasion.
Millions of people watch the famous ball drop every New Years Eve in the most famous city in the world. Sometimes I forget just how close to that special place I actually live. Now I’ve never had the slightest urge to actually go into the city to watch the ball drop live, but have walked right through that area numerous times over the years.
Times square is located at Broadway and West 42nd Street as shown in the penny design below. There is also a Times square information center which is where I pressed these designs about 6 years ago. Unfortunately the machine at this location has been removed but I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to share them as we celebrate the starting of 2016.
Be safe and make sure to complete your resolutions. Mines easy collect more pennies how can I possibly not fulfill that goal. Thanks for a great 2015 and here’s to a fantastic 2016!!
As a special after Christmas gift I received a small envelope in the mail today and was surprised to find the second set of Holiday nickels from California. These pressed coins became available just a short while ago in the Disney California Adventure park, and the machine can be found in the Los Feliz Five & Dime on Buena Vista Street.
The designs on these nickels include Mickey wishing everyone a Happy Holiday’s 2015, Minnie saying Season’s Greetings, and Mickey with a top happy New Years 2016.
This should complete the holiday nickel sets for this year, unless Disney decides to surprise us with another machine which is potentially possible. But if the last few years are any indication this should be it, just one machine (3 designs) for each of the California parks.
Now I just have the painstaking task of waiting another 365 days before I can try to get next years coins. But I’m sure I’ll find a lot of other coins between now and then which should keep me busy. Happy Holidays!!
As I sit to write this my family is upstairs packing the turkey in our car so we can head over to my parents house to start our Thanksgiving festivities. Risking a major scolding I wanted to post a quick Happy Thanksgiving to everyone out there.
This is the time of year to really take the time to think about and be thankful for everything we have. Most of the year we can mistakenly take for granted our family and friends but on this special day as you enjoy your turkey or whatever other special meal you have prepared, just take a look around at your loved ones and be thankful.
To all of you out there I would like to say thank you for coming back week after week and following my adventures (or mis-adventures) in pressed penny collecting. It means a lot to know that so many of you share this hobby and are just as obsessed as I am and by some of the feedback maybe even more.
I found the above coin in my collection and wanted to share it. It was design by StudioTwelve28. They have a wonderful website you can visit at StudioTwelve28.com with lots of great penny designs available.
Thanks again and have a safe a wonderful Thanksgiving Day!!
